Budapest and Food!

Budapest and Food!

Hello all! So, well done if you worked out where I was! I travelled to the capital of Hungary – Budapest! This building is actually the parliament

and it is the third largest parliament building in the world. It is situated on the banks of the River Danube and totally dominates any view of the water! It is still a working parliament but tours are offered… but with around 20 kilometres of stairs I decided that was too much walking so we viewed it from outside!

Think of Hungary and food and you may well think of goulash… you would be right but there is so much more! (sorry for the meat in the photo all my raw, vegetarian and vegan readers!)

Street food is a deep fried bread called ‘Langos’ (lang-gosh) usually topped with sour cream and cheese… but salad can also be found to contrast with the oily base or if you’ve a sweet tooth, try it with nutella!

Vegetarians and vegans are also catered for if you look hard!

I found a meat free restaurant selling this coconut ice-cream – free from dairy, gluten and sugar!

It was very yummy even if we did have to ask for a mug of hot water to defrost it in a bit! Several places also sell falafel so if nothing else at least there is something!

Staying in a spa hotel we were fortunate to have a very wide choice for breakfast… they even had fresh cherries one day! yumyum! Hot food, cold food, dairy free milk choices, salads, fruits, as well as yogurts, breads and pastries.

Corn-on-the-cob or sweetcorn (kukorica) is another popular street food and although I’ve never thought of it before, sprinkled with paprika – the traditional Hungarian spice (of which there are FORTY varieties) makes it even more delicious! Yumyum!

Probably the easiest purely vegan food you will find in Budapest!

Hopefully I’ll have time to post again soon but back to that chaotic couple of months again now! 🙁 Please keep liking and commenting as it’s great to know you’re there and of course it will encourage me to have a break and create some more yummy recipes to share! 😛 🙂

I’m great! Finally got some time to catch up on blogging and all that! Aah, i hope it all slows down soon. Always take some time to relax a bit, as you so wisely suggested during your A-Z challenge! Good luck 😉

So much fun Sophie but it seems like a distant memory already! 🙁 I can still recreate its foods though! 🙂

Mmmm, I know I’m bad, but I love how that Langos looks. Imagine it with vegan nutella or some dairy-free cream cheese… yum, yum, yum… Well, you didn’t have it all that bad. Surely, less vegan options, but gradually, more and more options are arising and can be found 🙂

I always had a weakness for pasty, that’s why being raw is the safest bet for me. At least, until we buy the dehydrator! 🙂

I am still waiting on a review from you… is it good for grinding nuts, making butters? If it is, I would like to buy the same model if I can find it here is Serbia 🙂
