Let’s talk about Plastic!

Yes, it is most definitely time, so let’s talk about plastic! Many of you may have seen my instagram post this week where I reposted about correct disposal of PPE! I also attended an online meeting where all kinds of plastic related things were discussed!

Although usually I post a recipe on a Friday, today I decided to draw your attention to another area of my website which I have just updated!

Plastic Action Champions! Of course, there are a few recipes thrown in too, as homemade food generally means less plastic!

Food Savvy

Many of you will know that before lockdown I took part as an ambassador in the Food Savvy Challenge (February 2020). Whilst reducing food waste was one of the main parts of this challenge, the other part was reducing single use plastic! All of these things are linked together and it is really amazing how much there is to learn!

Useful apps

In the UK we have some fantastic apps which connect neighbours and surplus items (food and non-foods)! If you search ‘food sharing apps’ you will likely find several which operate in your area! The one I love the most (free to download, free to use) is called Olio. Olio is predominantly a food sharing app where volunteers list unwanted foods! Some people regularly collect short dated food from local shops. Some people list food they no longer need or like (think multipacks, unwanted gifts etc.). Olio is a great way of reducing food waste and as a bonus you get extra shopping which you might not have had the budget for!

I would love for you to visit the Plastic Action Champion part of my website (I’ve spent a long time battling with the internet Gremlins this week)! Let me know in the comments below what steps you have already taken to reduce your plastic! Also, let me know what steps you are going to take after checking out the link!

Woohoo back? So, I’ve tried to cut down on my plastic usage (still use reusable Tupperware containers though) but definitely not as many plastic bags as I used to. I’ve seen quite a few bits of PPE chucked on the ground and was tempted to take a pic and send it to you! I use a fabric pencil case to store my mask(s)?

Yay! No idea what the Gremlins want Eva! 😛 Reuasable Tupperware is great – better than rolls and rolls of clingfilm! Oh yes, send me PPE photos next time – what is wrong with people! Ooo, I’ve got a drawsting bag (I think it had tea in it) so I will use that for my mask (thanks for the idea)! 😀 What about stuff that comes in plastic like sauces? drinks? shampoo? toothpaste?
