naan bread

Naan Bread

I am a bread fiend! I love bread! Any type of bread! White bread, granary bread, thick bread, thin bread, toasted bread, crispy bread and naan bread.

I created this recipe a while ago, and thought I would share it today – rather than not share a recipe at all!

I have been busy and I almost… I said ‘almost’ forgot it was blog day! Haha – of course I would never forget that! What I did do though, was spend about 3 hours looking for a particular set of photos for another recipe, which as yet, I am unable to find! I promise when I find the photos George, I will post the tofu recipe for you! For now though, it is bread!

Naan bread
Course: main, Snack, starter
Cuisine: Indian
Keyword: flatbread, Indian bread, naan, naan bread, nan bread
Created by:: Laurena @LifeDietHealth
Gather
  • 300 g plain flour
  • 7 g yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 6 g salt
  • 100 g plain yogurt (I used Alpro plain)
  • 30-50 ml milk (I used unsweetened Oat)
  • 50 ml boiling water
  • *optional melted butter and fresh coriander (to serve)
  • *optional kulonji (nigella/onion) or sesame seeds
Prepare
  1. Mix flour with yeast, sugar and salt.

  2. Add yogurt, milk and water (you might not need all the milk) and mix by hand. The dough should be sticky.

  3. Knead for 10 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.

  4. Put in bowl, cover with a towel and leave for 1 hour until doubled in size.

  5. Divide into 8 pieces and roll each one out (or shape by hand) into a teardrop shape.

  6. Heat a hot pan (cast iron is best) and lay a piece of dough on it. The dough should puff up. Carefully turn it over and cook on the other side.

  7. Remove and repeat with the remaining dough. Brush with melted butter if desired and sprinkle with fresh coriander, kulonji or sesame seeds (or all three)!

  8. Serve whilst still warm.

  9. Enjoy!

Hi Laurena, I think I would choose bread over chocolate and that’s saying a lot😁 Supermarket Naan was one of my fave breads as a teen lol. I used to make flatbread and some ‘no knead focaccias’ without yeast…some were chewier than others, not very fluffy hehe.
We’ve been mainly eating pumpernickel bread recently, I’ve been pleasantly surprised hubby’s been ok with it- our doc suggested he switch to this instead. I wish you hadn’t mentioned granary toast with butter and Marmite🤤😛

Ooo, bread over chocolate! Wow! I’m not sure on that one! Did I ever tell you we used to melt our Easter eggs on to toast lol! 😛 Supermarket Naan – splash of water then in the toaster? I think I might try a ‘healthier’ version of peshwari naan – that used to be what I’d order from the Indian every time – so coconutty and yummy! Have you tried my recipe for this bread? https://www.lifediethealth.com/bread-but-not-as-you-know-it/ It’s very good (I think I need to make it again)! Hmmm, shall I have granary toast and marmite before bed…

No, I did not know this about you melting chocolate eggs on toast😝 We always melted ours over Rice Crispies to make sort of cracknel cupcakes without the golden syrup…I actually preferred it that way, more solid choc lol.
I just ate the Naan straight out the pack, I think. Maybe I put it in the oven for a bit☺️ My go-to accompanying flatbread at Indian restaurants was always chapati or roti. I remember mum used to make chapattis for a while, much better than mine anyway. Your bread recipe reminds me of a similar one I tried a few years ago (British vegan youtuber called Vegan Mark or something like that). I’ll need to find some psyllium husk, thank you👍 Have a nice weekend if possible, hope you’re ok x

Ooo, choc rice crispy cakes for breakfast? Sounds a plan… although I prefer it with cornflakes 😛 Oh no, not straight out of the pack Eva – although, if you’ve never had an airblown pack maybe you wouldn’t be so put off! Chapati for me if I was trying to be more healthy lol – what do you think to a peshwari naan recipe? Not seen a vegna Mark but I might have a look if I ever have a spare minute! Yes, find some psyllium husk – it is great and you will love that bread! Hope you have a fab weekend too… I’m planning on relaxing!

I tried ‘marzipan naan’ once, I think it’s a bit like Marmite hehe

Marzipan naan?! That’s a new one?! Maybe it is peshwari but they put more nuts in than coconut? It’s white and marzipan-ish looking! Love my marmite! 😛

The taste of Peshwari naan reminded me a little of marzipan lol

I love to make freshly baked naan bread and serve it with curry butter, yogurt dip, or spicy hummus. Thanks for sharing
