Pack an amazing picnic so good everyone will want yours!

Picnics.

Pack a picnic and head outside! Go to a park, a beach, a forest, even round a friends or in your own garden or allotment! Grab your food, plenty of drink, weather appropiate gear – hats and suncream or wellies and raincoats! Off you go!

The Picnic Contents!

Anything! Yes, absolutely anything goes on a picnic! You might automatically think of a picnic as similar to a packed lunch with sandwiches, crisps, fruit and possibly something biscuity or cakey? Well, you can do that of course, but how about you make it like an outdoor buffet! Grab all those lovely nibbly bits, sweet, savoury, hot, cold and pack them all up!

Main Savoury Items

Choose one or two main items to base your picnic around. Why not try these:

Falafel

Giant Baked Beans

Garlic Mushroom Nut Loaf

Mini Quiches

Picnic Pies

Sausages

Cornish Style Pasties

Add your favourite bread or grain

The great thing about picnics is that you can mix and match to suit the weather, your mains and your appetite! Try a nice crusty bread or some bread rolls or even a tasty pasta or easy quinoa dish.

Salad & Veg

Picnics are great for having an assortment of salad and vegetables that you may often forget to eat! Of course, there is the obvious lettuce, tomato, cucumber, but all of these come in different varieties! Try different leaves, cherry or plum tomatoes and miniature cucumbers. Keep them whole, chop them up – make this tasty salad, or this Greek inspired salad! Then add peppers, carrots, radishes, sweetcorn, beetroot, cress, watercress, spring onions, olives, artichokes, or any other vegetables you can think of! You could even make a coleslaw or potato salad or check out some other salad ideas!

Sauces & Dips

These are often forgotten but can really turn a good picnic into a great picnic! My favourite has to be houmous as it goes with everything, but I also love this barbecue relish. Of course, you could just take olive oil, balsamic vinegar, or your favourite ready made sauce!

Remember to pack dessert

There are so many choices here but after such a lot of nibbly bits of food, I love to have a choice of fruits to pick on. Of course, you could make cake, cookies or something more elaborate depending on the weather and the location!

What do I need?

Picnics are one of those events which you can go simple, or splash out on. I would try and pack everything into reusable containers, wrap in foil or put in jam jars! Make sure you have somewhere comfy to sit, pack a wet cloth in a bag for your hands and add some washable plates, glasses and cutlery. Here are a few great items ideal for picnics. I receive a small commission if you click and purchase through these links (this is at no additional cost to you)!
