Sizzled Tofu Steak with a sprinkling of motivation!

Tofu!? I hear you! 😀 You’re probably thinking seriously!? There’s a ton of tastier foods to eat! 😛 Well, this is my best tofu yet! It is so good! Can I say that again?! This is so amazingly good! 😀

You might have heard me say before if prepared properly that tofu soaks up flavour… well, this has a very rich umami flavour, a definite ‘meaty’ bite, and I would make a double or even triple batch if I were you! YES REALLY! This is one great recipe I created for you! 😀

Tofu Steaks (5)

Anyway, how is your January going? Have you given up meat, dairy and eggs for #Veganuary? Maybe you’ve given up alcohol for dry January? Are you sad that all the jolliness and festivities are over for another year and now at a loose end trying to fill your days? Have you made new years resolutions to get fitter and subsequently joined a gym or taken up a new sport?  It’s a known fact that January is the month that everyone starts with good intentions and by less than halfway through the month, enthusiasm wanes and people give up! There is apparently a ‘ditch New Years resolutions day’ but we so don’t want to go there! So, my message to you is keep going!

keep going

Stick to your plans and goals and soon they will become a habit! Yes it will be hard, but you are over the hardest part! You started your aims I would imagine after a period of bingeing and not caring, then suddenly went cold turkey and started something new! See… the worst part is over! Now you should be settling into a routine and getting better at whatever it is you’re trying to achieve! So… let me know in the comments what you’ve been doing so far in 2018 to improve yourself and remember…

i can

Yes you can! 😀 Think of all the reasons you’d decided to do it in the first place… write it down if that helps (I always write things down to make them more real)! Then keep going! 🙂 If you’re really close to giving up – share your thoughts with a friend, or leave a comment below and we’ll do our best to boost your motivation! 😀

Back to this most delicious ever tofu! If you’ve never made tofu before, now’s the time to start! If you make tofu regularly, you’ll know how great it can be and you will most definitely not be disappointed with these sizzled tofu steaks! Check out some of my other delicious tofu recipes such as this warming tofu vegetable soup, this crunchy baked polenta tofu, a Chinese style salt ‘n’ chili tofu or how about a spiced tofu?

Have a fun week and don’t be afraid to join in the conversation below! 😀

Sizzled Tofu Steak (Vegan & Free-From)

  • Servings: 2-3
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Print

Gather

  • 1 pack (approx. 400g) firm tofu drained and pressed
  • 1 tablespoon miso paste
  • 1 tablespoon tamari
  • 1 tablespoon coconut aminos
  • 1 tablespoon tahini
  • 1 tablespoon liquid smoke
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup

Prepare

  1. Cut the drained tofu into thick slices (around 12-14 slices per block) and arrange on a shallow plate.
  2. Mix everything else together well, then spread over the tofu.
  3. Turn the tofu over to coat the other side. Allow to marinate for 15-45 minutes.
  4. Place on a lined or greased baking sheet, add any remaining marinade and bake for 15-20 minutes checking and turning over half way through.
  5. Enjoy!

Tips & Storage

  • You could also shallow pan fry these in a drop of neutral flavoured oil but be aware that the marinade will quickly create smoke!
  • Chop the tofu into cubes and use in a stir fry with onions, cooked potato, peppers, corn and peas.
  • Change the cooking time if you want a chewier or crispier texture.
  • Serve with your favourite grain, potatoes, pasta or vegetables.
  • Delicious cold – can be used in sandwiches, as a snack or a Buddha bowl topping.
  • Store refrigerated for up to five days.

So fresh, healthy and something I could easily enjoy. I do love tofu, but have never tried cooking it this way.

Thank you Loretta, it is so good! Maybe a bit too good as I found myself stealing a slice every time I opened the fridge!!! 😛 How do you usually cook yours?
