Tofu Sprinkles!

These are my new favourite food! Not only are they great for sprinkling an extra bit of protein on a salad or soup, they also make great nibbles too!

The thing that makes these great is the size! These are tiny little bites of tofu, totally full of flavour and they definitely fill that gap!

These are easy to make and thinking about it, the flavour combinations are endless – but I’ve gone with cajun spicy! Literally chop the tofu into mini cubes, sprinkle with herbs, spritz with oil, massage it all together and bake for 20-30 minutes! So good! What flavour combo would you try? Here’s my recipe…

Tofu Sprinkles

Tiny cubes of spiced tofu, full on flavour and great for sprinkling on salads and soups!

Gather
  • 1 block tofu pressed
  • 1 teaspoon cajun spice
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic granules
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • salt to taste
  • 10 sprays olive oil (or 1/2 teaspoon)
Prepare
  1. Make sure the tofu is well and truly drained (see suggested items for a great gadget worth its weight in kitchen roll)! 😛

  2. Cut the tofu into 1/2 cm slices, then slice into lengths, and finally small cubes.

  3. Arrange the tofu cubes in a shallow dish / plate, then sprinkle all the herbs and spices over.

  4. Spritz with the oil (or drizzle), then gently massage all the ingredients together.

  5. Place in a single layer on a lined baking tray, and bake at Gas Mark 5 (375f / 190c) for 20 – 30 minutes.

  6. Eat as they are, or allow to cool for use later. Enjoy!

Now, if you are thinking, but I don’t like tofu, likely is you need to learn how to prepare it properly! There are a few brands of tofu which you can use straight away, my favourite has to be Tofoo! If you can find the smoked version – you can eat that straight from the pack! Anyway, if you can’t find Tofoo, the next best thing is to get yourself one of these Tofu presses!

Having this tofu press over the last three years has really changed the way we enjoy tofu! We probably have tofu at least once a week and the whole family now enjoy it (and there are often fights over the last piece)! Of course, you could just wrap your tofu in sheets and sheets of kitchen roll and weight it down with a plate and cans, tipping the water away and re-wrapping it for half an hour… or, pop it in the press and tip the liquid away after five minutes! ? no contest!

Anyway, once you have your tofu sorted, either by getting a firm block or pressing it, it’s good to go and will soak up any flavours you throw at it!
